In A Union? Scholarship Support Available!

Empire State College is now accepting applications for the Morton Bahr Online Learning Scholarship for the 2011-2012 academic year. This scholarship honors the far-seeing vision and commitment to educational opportunity of Morton Bahr, Communications Workers of America president emeritus and Empire State College alumnus.

Union workers, family members and/or domestic partners interested in registering for degree studies with Empire State College may apply. Currently, the awards are only for undergraduate study at Empire State College. Since its inception in 2001, the Bahr scholarship has helped 35 students continue their education through distance learning.

The deadline for applications is May 15, 2011, and award decisions will be announced by the end of June for fall enrollment. Scholarship awards fully cover tuition, fees and special services for part-time study. New Bahr Scholar candidates are responsible for the cost of course materials.

To submit an application online or to download the form, visit To have an application mailed, candidates should contact e-mail or call 800 847-3000 ext 2492.

Students in the program will be eligible for scholarship funding as long as they maintain satisfactory academic progress and enroll in four to eight credits in at least two terms per year. Once enrolled as a Bahr scholar, students also must apply for other federal, state, corporate or union financial aid for which they may be eligible.
