Parts of A Citation

To cite your sources properly, you need:

1) all the pieces of information required to identify and locate an information source

  • Author (or editor, artist, speaker, lyricist, etc.)
  • Title of article (or book chapter, blog entry, web page, artwork, song, etc.)
  • Title of¬†periodical (or book, exhibit, conference, web site, album, etc.)
  • Dates (of publication, of lecture, of blog entry, of interview, of accession, etc.)

2) a citation style with which to format these pieces of information
